Cathy Cress, MSW

Cathy Cress, MSW is a founding partner of CHN Associates and holds an MSW in Aging from U.C. Berkeley. She published The Handbook of Geriatric Care Management, 3rd Edition, in 2011 which has become the bible of geriatric care management; Mom Loves You Best, Forgiving and Forging Sibling Relationships, in 2010; and Care Managers, Working With the Aging Family, a major book on the aging family, in 2008. She has taught geriatric care management at the University of Florida, San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley.

Ms. Cress has consulted with many profit and non-profit groups to add or relaunch a geriatric care management component. She was editor of the Journal of Geriatric Care Management and has authored innumerable articles in aging and home care publications. She recently edited the Journal of Geriatric Care Management Fall 2011 Issue on “Rehospitalization, How Care Managers Help Decrease Hospital Visits.” She was the CEO of Cresscare Case Management for Elders for 25 years.

Cress was director of Northern California Professional Services for LivHOME, a national geriatric care managed home care agency. She has served on numerous boards of professional associations and service organizations.

Jack Herndon, MBA

Jack Herndon, MBA has over 20 years of experience in marketing, management and business development roles in companies ranging from Fortune 1000 organizations to start up organizations (for profit and not-for-profit).

He and his wife Nina own and operate Sage Eldercare Solutions, www.SageEldercare.com, a leading Bay Area eldercare practice providing care management and home care services.

He is co-author of the chapter in The Handbook of Geriatric Care Management, “Adding GCM to a Home Care Agency” and is a founding board member and Treasurer of the San Francisco Village, www.SFVillage.org.

He recently published The Hospital Discharge Organizer and has led numerous workshops for families navigating the eldercare maze.

Jack earned his B.A. from Brown University and his MBA from Stanford University.

Deborah Newquist, PhD, MSW

Deborah Newquist, PhD, MSW is a founding partner of CHN Associates. She is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Gerontology at the University of Southern California (USC). Previously she was the Director of Geriatric Services for ResCare Inc., an international chronic care services company; and the founder and president of Senior Care Resources, a pioneering geriatric care management and home care company based in Southern California. She has over 25 years experience working with seniors and their families.

Dr. Newquist received her Ph.D. from UCLA; M.S.W., M.P.A., and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from USC; and is a certified care manager. She is a past President of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers and has held positions on numerous community agency boards including the Alzheimer's Association of Orange County, and The Episcopal Homes and Communities where she chaired the Villages Taskforce. She has worked on technology and aging for ResCare and recently for the California State University Fullerton.

Dr. Newquist's publications include a chapter on functional assessment for The Handbook of Geriatric Care Management, and co-editorship of the Technology for Aging in Place edition of the Journal of Geriatric Care Management. She has been featured in the New York Times on services for eldercare.
